Introduced in 1968, this sharp looking coupe was built on a Kadett chassis (the Kadett being Opels smallest model) with steel bodywork that was made for Opel in France. The most popular model had a 1.9 litre four cylinder engine (hence GT 1900) giving 90bhp and a top speed of 110mph. A 1.1 litre model was also offered for a time, but was not very popular and was phased out in 1970.

Over 100,000 GTs were made in total between 1968 and 1973, and of those 80,000 went to the USA, the cars main market. All Opel GTs were left hand drive, as no right hand drive versions were offered by Opel. Personally I think it is a great looking coupe with some unusual styling features including headlights that swivel into place (giving the car a frog eyed look when they are in the up position), a forward hinged bonnet with a small "power bulge" and a neat short tail end with four round tail lights. The car does not have an opening boot lid or hatch, which made it inconvenient to load it with luggage.

Minichamps make this model of the Opel GT, and it is a nice piece. It is well made with metallic blue paint and an attractive interior. The headlights swivel into place as on the real car, which is a nice detail. The engine bay is nicely detailed as are the wheels, and the exhaust and suspension systems are well done too. In summary I feel this is a quality 1:18th and a nice model for any fan of classic German cars.
