1969 Chevrolet Nova SS 396 by GMP/Peachstate
This car was one of the hottest American cars of the late 1960's. Chevrolet took a huge engine (396ci's) and put in into their new small (by American standards) Nova. The resultant SS 396 model was a serious performer, and instantly became one of the best Muscle Cars of the late 1960's.
GMP/Peachstate originally sold Limited Edition modified ERTL models, and this Nova is one of their first independent efforts. The fit and finish of this model is good, far superior to that of an equivalent ERTL in my opinion, but it is a more expensive model than an ERTL. The engine bay in particular, as well as the underside of the car are very well presented, although the interior is quite plain. However, a major bone of contention among collectors is that the doors on this model do not open. Despite this the model looks essentially "right", but GMP have added opening doors on it's more recent releases. As with most ERTL's, the trunk or boot lid does not open either.
This was the first GMP model in my collection and many more have followed since! I'm giving it a low 52.5% mainly due to the lack of opening doors. In my opinion opening doors are to be expected on all diecast 1:18th's, even the cheaper ones. There is absolutely no brake detail either, so 0/10 marks in that category!
