As Germany remains one of the few countries in the world to have no speed limits on parts of it's motorway (or "Autobahn") network, the police ("Polizei") need fast cars to enable them to catch the fast moving traffic. This police vehicle is a fast car indeed as it is a BMW M3 4-door, which with it's 321bhp M-Sport six cylinder engine can top 155mph (and that's with a speed limiter, which the police cars don't have). Of course, like all marked police cars, the large light array on the roof knocks the top speed down a bit due to the increased aerodynamic drag it causes.

Police versions of cars such as the M3, tend to have basic interiors (similar to that on a 316i) rather than the luxurious interiors usually found on civilian versions of these range topping cars. This keeps the cost down for the police forces buying them, and makes them more hard wearing.

As a model, this is a nice piece, although far from perfect. The wheels I feel do not look quite right, as the spokes seem to protrude too much compared to the real cars wheels. The engine looks good but it is not a separate piece. In common with many UTs, only the top of the engine is modelled which can be quite obvious depending on the subject matter. The interior has a couple of nice touches including an extra speedometer between the front seats (readable by a rear seat passenger, presumably to clock the speed of other cars) and an extra rear view mirror for the front seat passenger. The police lights look real, as do the loudhailers mounted beneath them. The rear doors and boot do not open on this model. Overall though, despite the failings mentioned, I do like this model and feel it brings some added colour to the collection.
