This handsome sports saloon was made between 1964 and 1972 by Alfa-Romeo. This particular model represents a 1970 Giulia 1300 Super. A combination of rear wheel drive, with a sporty double overhead camshaft (DOHC) 1.3 litre four cylinder engine (with 89bhp) and a 5 speed gearbox, made it a great driving machine for it's day. Around 260,000 were produced in all, with a further 200,000 of the 1.5 litre Giulia being produced around the same time. The main difference between the 1.3 models and the bigger engined 1.5 litre Giulia's (which were introduced in 1962) is the single headlight style (the bigger engined cars have twin headlights).

Minichamps make this lovely Alfa model, and it is part of their increasing range of 1:18th scale models. It has a fully detailed engine bay, with vehicle identification plates, plug wires, and so on, plus an interior that has detail such as a painted speedometer and rev counter, radio and steering wheel. All four doors open, and have windows in the up position, and the boot lid opens to reveal a luggage bay together with a rubber floor mat, complete with the Alfa-Romeo logo. The paintwork and overall finish are good, and the model does have a quality feel to it. The headlights (which have a visible "peg hole" in the centre; the locating piece of plastic holding the headlight lens to the model) are probably the weakest aspect of this model, which also gets a low score for brake detail. Certainly a nice model for anyone who loves classic Italian cars.
